K3 In May
We will be exploring Weather, Rainbows, and Sea life. We are focusing on Kind and Unkind choices and behaviors as their self control skills seem to waiver a little this time of year, but are critical to success in K4.

Name Recognition/Tracing: we will continue to match our names and emphasis on all the letter in their first name. We are introducing last name knowledge and recognition with our Morning Matching. We will be working on letter recognition for all the letters in their name in small groups. Please work on letter recognition at home. We have sent your child's Name tracing home to keep and for you to practice at home. They should be able to form most letters on their own! If they struggle, just work on the first letter and letter recognition for the letters in their name.
Name tracing is a morning check in routine, and we are working with those that are ready to free write their name. We have added last name tracing also! The key is to get them familiar and comfortable and more exposure to all the letters in their name. We practice using 3 pt holding of their writing tool.
PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD IS USING 3PT WHILE HOLDING THEIR WRITING TOOL AT HOME
Cutting: Any type of cutting you can let your kiddos experience at home is great! We have been working on shape cutting crafts to help progress "walking" their scissors along a line or curve. Please practice proper holding and cutting at home. Here is our reminder poem.

Journals: We work on our numbers, shapes, and name letter recognition this month! Much of their work and "assessment" info is kept in their journal. We continue to work on drawing self portraits and of others.
Self-Portraits: emphasis on proper body placements and moving away from the M&M portraits.
ClassTag: Please make sure you are on the Classtag app. We love to share photos of your kiddos learning and exploring.
SELF CARE SKILLS:
please ensure your child is continuing to be self sufficient in the restroom. This includes proper hand-washing (water, soap, scrub, rinse, dry). This also includes being able to pull clothing up and down (make sure shorts are not too tight). Please also work on putting on socks and shoes independently, as we remove these at least twice a day for sand dumping!
We have focused on using manners at school this year and this is a reminder that kiddos are learning self control and "waiting for a turn" and asking with NICE words when they need something.
