PTO Meeting

September 18, 2008 -- 6:30 pm Parish Life Center

1. Meeting started by second graders singing at 6:30.

2. Attendees:

Request for PTO Reps for 6A and 5A.

Questions from parents:

Can we get some shade for the patio tables by the cafeteria? Principal Nadicksbernd said it’s on the list of things to get, but we are waiting to have the money to make the purchase.

What are our Fundraisers this year? Alicia Lund explained that our Fund Rays book sales currently going on and The Walk scheduled for the Spring. She explained that we are always interested in hearing about new Fundraiser ideas, so please share any new ideas with us.

Announcement by Vivian Perez that the T-shirt order was extended to Monday, 9/22/08 and that there was a sample in the office.

Alicia Lund, PTO President also explained that some parents have approached her about the uniform policy. She explained that the uniform policy is set by the school and not the PTO, so questions about uniform can be directed to the administration.

 5. Committee reports:

-Spaghetti Dinner/Open House:

Scheduled for October 16,2008.  Lee Anne Burroughs is in charge again this year

-Catholic Schools week

Will be chaired by Maggie Lynch.

- The Walk

Needed a chair. Kerri Loafman volunteered the next day

Needed a chair. Christine Fetcho volunteered to be the chair.

Needed a chair, but later that evening Darryl Welborn volunteered to chair it.

7. Principal Nadicksbernd asked the teachers to stand, as they are the "T" in PTO and it was wonderful to have them there. Then introduced Gregg Abel.

8. Gregg Abel, director of Parish Life Center spoke about the hours of the PLC (9:00 am – 9:00 pm). The cost of membership is free for parishioners and $5.00/year for non-parishioners. There are fitness classes for an additional fee that varies; there is fitness equipment; there are plans for adults leagues in the future and he encouraged all ideas of things the members may want to see and do with the PLC to please come forward and make full use of the PLC. Everyone is very excited about the new building.

9. Principals Report

We currently have gymnastics on campus after school. Cotillion is on campus now as well and there are looking into possible Dance and Karate.

Notre Dame Writing Curriculum is being introduced/incorporated soon.

Bleacher goal has been met and will be here mid-October. The total amount collected was $21,472.12. She explained that the 12 cents was from Marietta Casey’s kindergarten class that donated some of their change/piggy bank money.

Service Projects continue and students are making items for shut-ins of the St. Mary Parish.

Jeans Day – for children of parents that attended the meeting tomorrow, Friday, 9/19/08.

Safety – Thank you for following carpool protocol and safety in the parking lot this year.

Box tops helper needed – Kristen White volunteered.

10. Lynne Graves

Spoke on the dangers of internet computing and our children. She stressed the importance of constant supervision of children while on the internet.

11. Lures program presented by Lea Ann Norred

School Counselor, introduced the Lures program book and encouraged parents to take it home and discuss it with their children. Explained the importance of teaching children to trust their instincts and be wary of strangers.
